SAYSORRY · LOVE & CONNECTION
Make the message personal
Choose a useful starting point, add the real incident or memory, and make a personal card or message.
Create your personal card ↗A child’s image can reveal personal routines and locations. A family photo boundary should specify what is allowed and should not require relatives to agree before respecting it.
What matters in this situation
Tell relatives what private sharing permits and what it does not. A photograph sent directly is not automatically approved for a status update or group forward. Avoid listing the child’s school, routine or location while explaining why you want those details kept private.
Plan the message before you send it
Digital actions can reach an audience much larger than the writer intended. Deleting a post or message may reduce further spread, but it does not prove every copy is gone. Be accurate about what you know, respect contact limits and distinguish private conversation from permission to publish.
1. State the posting and forwarding rules
Check the specific audience, channel and permissions involved instead of assuming access means consent.
2. Ask for removal of unapproved posts
Take practical action within your control and be honest about what cannot be confirmed.
3. Offer an agreed private sharing method if desired
Avoid solving uncertainty through repeated messages, monitoring or contact through other people.
Three sample drafts to adapt
These are illustrative drafts, not accounts of real conversations. Use only wording that is true for you. Replace the person, detail and practical arrangement where needed, and leave out any line that would make the message less accurate.
Sample 1
Please do not post or forward photographs of our child without checking with us about the specific picture.
Before borrowing this wording, check that every remembered detail and practical offer is accurate. Remove anything that belongs to another person’s situation.
Sample 2
We would like this post removed, including the location tag. Thank you for helping us keep that information private.
This is an alternative starting point, not a required second message. Choose it only when it matches what you genuinely want to communicate.
Sample 3
We can share some pictures directly with family, but private sharing is not permission to repost them.
If you combine the drafts, keep the result focused. Repeating the same request in several forms can make a considerate message feel like pressure.
A line to avoid, and a clearer alternative
You mean everything to me, so you have to make time for this.
This version joins affection to an obligation. The revised draft offers a specific thought or invitation without deciding the answer in advance. Warmth becomes more credible when the recipient can respond honestly. Remove any sentence that turns a shared memory, compliment or gift into a debt the other person must repay.
Choose the audience and format carefully
Keep sensitive content out of group screenshots, public posts and forwarded explanations. Use the permitted channel and share only what the recipient needs to understand the practical issue. If deletion, correction or reporting is necessary, do that promptly. Do not use another account or a mutual contact to bypass a restriction on communication.
Keep this particular risk in mind
Do not post identifying details yourself while claiming the rule only applies to others.
What to do after the message
Keep the child’s developing preferences in mind and review the arrangement as they grow.
Give the recipient room to add their perspective. A short answer may be all that fits the moment, and a different preference is useful information rather than a failure of the wording. If you proposed a practical plan, confirm it together instead of treating a warm reaction as agreement to every detail.
